Stephen obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Cebu (UC).  He graduated Cum Laude and was the class salutatorian of UC College of Law Batch 2012.  He also obtained his bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City. 
 
Stephen has more than ten (10) years of professional experience in tax practice.  He was an Associate of the Cebu office of SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan Law Offices, one of the largest law firms in the Philippines, from July 2013 to June 2016.  He was also a Manager of the Tax Advisory & Compliance Division (Cebu and Davao Branches) of Punongbayan & Araullo (P&A) Grant Thornton, one of the leading accounting and tax consulting firms in the country. 

 

His areas of practice include Taxation, Corporate Services, Business Transactions, Labor, and Special Projects.  He is currently a Partner of Ybañez-Phua Ong Liao and Yu Law Office.  At present, he is also a professor and reviewer at the University of Cebu (UC) College of Law, teaching Taxation Law subjects and Credit Transactions.
